Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

Accessibility statement

Winter is hardest on the people who can least afford a blocked ramp or an icy step. Accessibility is part of how we plow, not a page we publish. This statement sets out our commitments under Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (O. Reg. 191/11).

Last reviewed: September 5, 2026 Website standard: WCAG 2.1 Level AA

Our commitment

Snow Removal Canada is committed to treating every person in a way that lets them keep their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity, and we will meet the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner by preventing and removing barriers — in our service, in our communications and on this website — in line with the AODA and the Ontario Human Rights Code.

This website

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard the regulation requires. At the last audit (September 2026) an automated accessibility scan of every page reported zero violations on desktop and mobile, and the site was checked by hand for the items an automated scan cannot judge.

  • Keyboard. Everything — menus, the gallery viewer, the storm timeline, the quote form — works without a mouse, with a visible focus indicator and a “skip to content” link.
  • Screen readers. Semantic headings and landmarks, labelled controls, form errors announced, and decorative imagery hidden from assistive technology.
  • Contrast and text. Text meets AA contrast on every background and can be enlarged to 200% without loss of content.
  • Motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the falling snow, parallax and every animation switch off automatically. The timeline never auto-advances once you interact with it.
  • No time limits, no flashing content, no audio that plays on its own.

Known limitations

  • The “scrape the snow” demonstration is a pointer-driven illustration. It is decorative — everything it shows is also written in plain text beside it.
  • Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts; if they fail to load, the site falls back to your system font without changing the layout.

If you hit a barrier anywhere on this site, tell us. We will fix what we can quickly and give you the information another way in the meantime.

Accessible service on site

  • At commercial and multi-residential properties, accessible entrances, ramps, accessible parking spaces and the paths between them are cleared and salted first, before general parking areas.
  • If someone at a residential property relies on a mobility device, a walker, or has a medical need for early clearing, tell us when you sign up and we flag the route so that property is serviced early in the pass.
  • We keep curb cuts and the walkway to the door open, and we do not pile snow where it blocks an accessible route.
  • Service animals are welcome on every property we work on, and our crews will never ask a support person to leave.

Accessible customer service

  • Assistive devices. You are welcome to use your own assistive devices when dealing with us in person, and our staff are trained to interact with the devices people commonly use.
  • Service animals and support persons. Both are welcome at any meeting, site visit or at our office.
  • Communication. We will communicate in the way that works for you — phone, text message, email, video call, or in person — and take the time you need. Our phone line is answered by a person, not a menu.

Documents & formats

Quotes, service agreements, invoices and this statement are available on request in accessible formats — large print, plain-text email, or read aloud over the phone — at no extra cost and in a timely manner. Ask by phone or email and tell us which format helps.

Feedback

We want to hear how we're doing, especially where we fell short. You can give feedback about the accessibility of our service or this website:

We acknowledge feedback within 2 business days and respond within 5 business days, in the format you used or another accessible format on request. Feedback can be anonymous.

Service disruptions

If a facility or service that people with disabilities rely on is temporarily unavailable — for example, if an extreme storm delays clearing of an accessible entrance — we will say so on this website and on our phone line, with the reason, the expected duration and any alternative available.

Training

Everyone who deals with customers on our behalf — office staff, crew leads and crews — is trained on accessible customer service under the AODA, on the Ontario Human Rights Code as it applies to people with disabilities, and on this statement. New staff are trained before their first season and whenever our practices change.
